Solarian men and women who wish to serve their empire may elect to become a marine. Donned in maroon coats and armed with lance rifles, they are seen practically everywhere in Solarian controlled territories, from the capital worlds to bustling space docks and backwater planets in the middle of nowhere. Though trained for combat, not many actually see actual fighting save for the occasional band of pirates threatening a port.

As part of naval doctrine, marine detachments are present on every single Solarian military void ship. A small scout ship might only have a squad of 5 marines on board at any time, while a fully-fledged ironclad dreadnought might have entire battalions stationed for boarding and counter-boarding action. During times of peace, these marines would act as security or help manage the guns onboard. Otherwise during combat, they would actively seek out opportunities to board enemy ships using small pods or boats deployed from ships.

Though traditionally women are not allowed to serve in the marines, a new family succeeded to the throne had recently declared that enlistment be open to all in a new wave of patriotism. Cynics however reason that this decision was made in light of high chances of eruption of war between interstellar neighbors. Though no restrictions are placed on female marines, most are relegated to combat medic roles attached to squads.
